A Snapshot of Volunteer Research

Our Eyes on Islington volunteer, Lindsay Topping, who some of you may have met at volunteer catch-up events, has recently shared with us her unique record of some of the buildings she is researching.

As part of her process, Lindsay sketches the buildings with beautiful results! The sketches offer a special personal touch to the project, making the buildings on Islington's local list come alive in a unique way.

Thank you Lindsay for sharing - we feel inspired and hope others do too! We look forward to seeing more illustrations as the project continues.

For any volunteers who are researching their buildings beyond the project brief, please get in touch so we can showcase all your efforts.

At the end of the project we will host an exhibition, and it would be wonderful to feature volunteer work in all forms!

Volunteer visit to the Islington Local History and Archives Centre

Welcome to the Our Eyes on Islington project blog!

Our Eyes on Islington is a two-year project by the Building Exploratory in partnership with Historic England and the LB of Islington that is reviewing Islington’s schedule of locally listed buildings with a team of volunteers and will make it publicly accessible through a bespoke website. The existing list has not been reviewed for the last 20 years, and given London’s fast pace of change, the project is timely and hopes to uncover and celebrate the borough’s rich, built environment heritage.

This blog is for volunteers and visitors alike to follow the project’s progress, ask questions and share information.

With 1,200 entries on the existing local list, there’s a lot of work to do but we’re looking forward to sharing the process here and hope that you find it interesting and helpful.
